FREELANG Font Center - Installation of a Virtual Keyboard |
Installation of a virtual keyboard (Windows) |
If you want to type a text in a foreign alphabet, the easiest way is to install a virtual keyboard and use a font already provided by Windows.
Windows XP:
Start menu, Settings, Control Panel ;
Regional and Language Options, Languages tab, click Details, then Add and select the language to add.
Windows 9x:
Start menu, Settings, Control Panel ;
Keyboard, Language, Add, then select the language to add.
When you want to switch between languages, just use the icon which is on the right bottom of your screen. For languages which have only a few differences with English, you will learn quickly where the special characters are. For languages which are totally different because they have their own alphabet, you can put stickers on your keyboard, or buy a real bilingual keyboard.
Here are a few programs to manage different languages on your keyboard :
Keyman (keyboard manager - 398 kb)
Multikey - free Unicode keyboard enhancement for Latin, Ancient Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Arabic...
Javascript Virtual Keyboard - a script suitable for simulating every single aspect of a real keyboard device.
WorldScript Macintosh Software (several packages for Mac)
